Overview

The Criminal Litigation Mentorship Program is designed to support law students from underprivileged backgrounds, enrolled in the University of Calcutta. This is a 3 years residential program, with a capacity of 30 students, focuses on practical training in criminal law. 


Objective

The program's goal is to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical experience in criminal litigation. By providing mentorship and training, it prepares students to excel in the legal profession, especially in criminal law.


Target Beneficiaries

This initiative targets law students from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds. These students often face significant barriers in accessing quality legal education and mentorship, which the program seeks to alleviate.


Program Structure

  1. Mentorship: Students are paired with experienced criminal law professionals for personalised guidance.
  2. Workshops & Seminars: Regular sessions on trial advocacy, legal drafting, and courtroom skills.
  3. Moot Courts: Participation in moot court competitions to develop advocacy skills.
  4. Internships: Opportunities with law firms and legal aid organisations for practical experience.
  5. Support: The residential program provides accommodation and financial assistance, ensuring students can focus on their studies.
